Sugar Britches

Sugar Britches is a blend of mischievous high-brow honky-tonk with eclectic instrumental accompaniment and clever lyrics, written by Brian Johanson and performed by a cavalcade of characters. Combining good ‘ol country heartache along with snarky folksy wit, Sugar Britches has been winning over audiences across Colorado and in southern Wyoming since. 2017.

Recent highlights for the band include an opening slot at the legendary Mishawaka Amphitheatre for Wynonna Judd and recognition on The Colorado Sound’s Top 20 List of Colorado Artists for 2021.

Additionally in 2021, the band has played municipal concert series, music festivals, a slew of brewery shows (New Belgium, Odell, Gruner Brothers (Casper), 105 West (Castle Rock), Wild Cider (Firestone), Lander Bar (Wyoming), etc.) and additional club, theater and private events.

Previous booking highlights included opening slots for Wynonna Judd, Corb Lund, Jalan Crossland and Jason Eady, the Gold Hill, CO 4th of July Twangfest, and approximately 40 dates in Colorado and Wyoming (Lander, Cheyenne, Laramie, Riverside and Burns).

They won Best Country Band of 2019 from the Fort Collins Musicians Association, and were nominated for Best Country Band in 2019 by the Denver Westword.  In 2019 they opened for The Reverend Horton Heat, Hymn for Her and Pokey LaFarge in regional theaters. They have played the 2019 Denver Westword Music Showcase, Bohemian Nights at New West Fest and various festivals throughout Colorado.

The band released their first album, Don’t Make Her a Mixtape Yet You Idiot, in 2019 to great success, and they are slated to record a new album of original songs in January of 2022.

Sugar Britches usually performs as a trio, the band can play as a duo, acoustic quartet or full electric band as needed.
